Sue-Ying Koang graduated from the Conservatoire National Sup\u00e9rieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, the Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA (USA) in violin as well as from the Haute \u00c9cole de Musique de Gen\u00e8ve in baroque violin and music pedagogy. She was a principal with the Li\u00e8ge Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from 2004 to 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2012, Sue-Ying has dedicated herself to the baroque and classical repertoires and has performed with specialized ensembles such as La Fenice, Les Arts Florissants, Pygmalion, Cappella Mediterranea in renowned concert halls and festivals: Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Musikverein and Vienna Staatsoper, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Teatro Col\u00f3n of Buenos Aires, Barbican Centre of London, Ambronay Festival, Salzburg Festival. She was also artist in residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada) in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She collaborates in particular with the harpsichordist, organist, conductor and musicologist Vincent Bernhardt<\/a>. Their first album “Dalla biblioteca di Vivaldi?” (Calliope, 2021) features anonymous violin sonatas from the early 18th century from a manuscript copied probably around 1716\/1717 by Johann Georg Pisendel. Among the sonatas, one has been attributed to Vivaldi by Vincent. Their second album “Travelling with a violin”, released in October 2023 by Calliope, spotlights manuscript sonatas for violin and continuo by Giuseppe Torelli. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This collaboration continues with the Chapelle Saint-Marc in Luxembourg, which has published the album “Herr, wenn ich nur dich habe” in 2024. Another album dedicated to Torelli’s handwritten trio sonatas will follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sue-Ying taught chamber music at the Li\u00e8ge Royal Music Conservatory from 2005 to 2011 as assistant to Fran\u00e7ois Deppe. Since 2016, she has been an occasional lecturer on historical practice issues in orchestral sessions at the HEMU Vaud. She led lecture-concert series at the Universit\u00e9 Populaire de Lausanne in 2021, and has been teaching historically informed practice at the HEMU Valais-Wallis since 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sue-Ying plays on instruments maintained by luthier Luc Breton and has trained with such esteemed pedagogues as Zoria Shikhmurzaeva, Pavel Vernikov, Michel Schwalb\u00e9, Malcolm Lowe and Alessandro Moccia. She has received grants from the Fulbright program of the Franco-American Commission, the Lavoisier program of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the M\u00e9c\u00e9nat Musical Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
